Conceived of in opposition to a grand masterplan, we propose to create a series of contained and highly evocative projects that offer new anchoring experiences through which Mildura can grow.
Mildura’s population is growing, it’s tertiary sector is becoming more important and tourism to the region is increasing.
This project proposes the establishment of a coherent and contemporary urban realm. Rich spatial qualities and experiences are seen as increasingly valuable assets for a city to attract and support a diverse populace.
By proposing the amplification of a series of vivid experiences such as the wharf, the weir and lock, the Sandbar Pub, Stefano’s Restaurant, the Arts Centre and Rio Vista house we celebrate islets of intensity which derive their memorability by marshalling their distinct scenographic, historical, cultural and formal qualities in distinct ways.
The work was exhibited at the London Architecture Festival in conjunction with Architecture Media and the Australian High Commission and Unlimited: Designing for the Asia Pacific in Brisbane both in 2010.
